POISONED WITH WHISKY.
A late telegram from Sydney gives particulars of an enquiry hold by Mr T. Pinhoy, J.P., at the Prince Alfred Hospital on Tuesday morning, concerning the death of a boy named Ernest Sinclair, who died from alcoholic poisoning. William Sinclair, grocer, residing, at Derbyshire Rond, Loichbnrdt, deposed that decensod was bis son, aged 5| years, and was in good health up to Saturday night, when ho appeared to bo sickening from measles ; on Sunday morning witness hoard footsteps in a room next to the children’s room, and on going in saw the deceased sitting on the lloor, with his head bent forward; witness’s wife followed him into the room, and deceased said “ Oh
mamma, don’t ory, I took some water with it;” lie thou almost immediately became unconscious ; on looking round witness found that a bottle which on the previous night had contained about hnlf-a-pinl of whisky had boon emptied. Ho was removed to the hospital, but died the same night. Mr Pinhey found that dentil resulted by and through the deceased having swallowed a quantity of spirituous liquor, to wit, whisky, which had been incautiously left within his reach. The Magistrate also added that ho could not refrain from cautioning parents in pursuing a similar act.
