COMMERCIAL.
MR FREEMAN R. JACKSON’S FORTNIGHTLY STOCK REPORT, Wednesday, Sept 19. I have to report a slight improvement in the demand for cattle, especially steers and bullocks, but prices still remain at last quotations. There is a strong demand for sheep of all descriptions, any coming forward meeting a good market. Cattle— At Kakafamea 63 head were sold ; cows and calves, L 3 7 s 6d ; steers, L 3 •Is ; milch cows, L 5 ss; young steers, L2 5s ; calves, 255. At the yards to-day 243 head came forward, the bulk being sold after the auction. Fat cows, medium quality, Li ; store cows, L2 Is; young cattle, mixed sexes, L2 ; steers, L 3 1 Os, I placed 45 fat cows privately during the fortnight, of good quality, Lo to 1,5 2s 6d. I have also disposed of 40 fat bullocks in Christchurch market . SHEEP — At Kakaramea 287 ewes and lambs of. indifferent quality made 10s. At the yards to-day fat sheep fetched 15s to ‘ Vita V Bfl: ” ■ " ' pias—Good well-fatted porkers are very saleable at fair rates, and stores at the sale to-day made from 8s to 11 s. HORsES —-I sold a few at medium prices. The ehtiie horses were all passed in, prices Hot being up to vendors’ ideas.
