ALARM OF FIRE.

The ringing of the firebcll just before three o’clock this afternoon, exercised a magical effect upon the appearance of the main street, which in an incredibly short space of time was converted from its chronic state of dullness into one of life and activity. Everybody rushed nothwards to look for the fire, whic-h turned ont to be nothing more serious than a conflagation in the chimney of a house in Dorby-street. The Brigade responded to the-call of dnty with their usual promptitude, looking as though they would have liked the job of putting an extinguisher upon half-a-dozen fires. Their services were not required, however, and in ten minutes after the bell rangr the town had resumed jits normal state.
