The officer in charge of the telegraph station at Castlepoint wires, that he observed a very large comet rising in the east at 7 o’clock last might- The moon rising shortly after, he coaid only see it faintly. ' . [We have a vague recollection that an eminent astronomer at Home predicted that last year’s comet would reappear in October,; return again three months after and fall into the -son, AND THEN.—-Ah ther,’s the rub. J We breathe once more.. This afternoon we received the following from the Press Association : : . WELLINGTON, This day. Captain Edwin has received-tele-grams from all the meteorological stations on the East Coast stating tbat no sign of comet was seen last night although a look out was kept for it. :
