WAVERLEY POUNDKEEPER.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I see by your issue of the 7th inst that the poundkeeper at Waverley tendered his resignation as such to the Patea County Council. Surely the Council must have been in error as it was the Waverley Town Board which appointed him, on March 13th, 1882, consequently his resignation must be made only to the same body. If I am not in error, the poundkeeper did tender his resignation to the Waverley Town Board on April 30th, 1883. On May 4th the Board passed a resolution that such resignation should be accepted, subject to certain conditions, which, so far. as I can glean, have not been complied with. On May 28th the poundkeeper was requested to furnish the Waverley Town Board with certain statements, and on June 28th, 1883, if my information is correct, a resolution was passed by the Board reminding him he had not yet complied with the request. A farther resolution was passed on July 30th. I should have been more satisfied had Cr Bridge been in his place at the County Council, as he would, I have no doubt, have put the Council right upon the appointment of the Waverley poundkeeper. I see the Chairman of the Council thought they should accept the resignation, but he evidently must have been in error when he states the Council appointed Mr Mason. He (the Chairman) must have confounded the former keeper, Mr J. B. Taylor, with the present one. I notice nothing is stated as to the statement of accounts required by the Impounding Ordinance, so presume that is to follow in due course, for which I shall anxiously look.

I might also put this query, why does ihe poundkceper send to the Patea County Council his resignation when refused by the body appointing him until certain conditions are complied with ? Ihe only conclusion I can draw is, the said poundkceper being now initiated on the Waverley Town Council, must know that he is not eligible to hold such office nntil such resignation is accepted. Yours &c., One who wants to know. Waverley, Sept 10.
