Miscellaneous, MAYORAL ELECTION. To the Burgesses of Patea. t ABIES AND GENTLEMEN,— I j The'unexpected resignation of Mr Milroy of the office of Mayor has led to an election at an earlier date than was anticipated. I had intended to have contested the - next election in the ordinary course, and therefore when the present vacancy arose and some friends asked me to be nominated I willingly agreed, as it has always been my pleasure to give my services to the public in any capacity in which they might be of nse. My name has been associated with Patea for the past fifteen years, and during that time I have endeavoured to the best of my ability to advance (he interests of ihe town. Leaving private institutions—such as the Steam Company—out of the question, I have had the honour of being connected with the Town Board since its formation in 1875, and subsequently with the Borough Council to the present time. I have also held office in the Harbour Board, the Domain Board, and in the Cemetery Board, the two latter of which I may say I took c leading part in obtaining the establishment of. There arc various other movements with which I have been associated from time to time, and I feel that the confidence and consideration always kindly extended to me by the public justify me in asking a renewal on this occasion. If elected I shall endeavour by every means in my power to aid the Council in the improvement, of the Borough, and the carrying out of such works as may be considered for the benefit of the place. I may add that if yon honour me with your confidence by electing me Mayor my watchword will be “ Pro-; gress,” not “ Obstruction.” Once more soliciting the favour of your vote, . I have the honour to remain, Your obedient servant, SAMUEL TAPLIN. POLLING DAY, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5. WANTED Purchasers for Hay. To be sold cheap.—Apply to W W. Fulton.
