THE MAYORALTY.
Nominations for the mayoralty closed at noon to-day with the resujt that Messrs R. A. Adams and S. Taplin wore both proposed for the vacancy. Consequently, there will dm a contest for the coveted'honour. We hope such contest will be conducted, in a public spirited manner, leaving private matters entirely alone. They are outside > the question, which' is one of public service, past and (6 come. The ratepayers have to consider past services, and whether the candidate has performed those services in a manner sufficiently satisfactory to' bo entrusted with the the highest office that it is in the power of the Burgesses to bestow. Our correspondence coluthns will, bo open .for the fair discussion of this question by the" supporters of both candidates,’but any innendbes of a personal nature'will berejccled. We shall endeavour to place the merits of the aspirants for Mayoral honours impartially before the public so that they may be assisted m making theirchoice. .■
