First, I have not seen or spoken to McKenzie for two or three months. I can prove at the time he made the statements near the Hotel re Hansen, it was in July. The writer goes on, “ I have seen Anderson some time since, at bis house.” That was in August, when he (McKenzie) had the impertinence to come on Sunday to my private place with his witnesses ; tattleprying after Hansen’s brand, and then to shuffle his fabrications on an innocent man’s back. I can prove I have nothing whatever to do with what McKenzie implicates me with re Hansen. If he (McKenzie) does not answer for his fabrications; with an apology in the Patea Mail , or produce his three witnesses at once, let him stand in the position before the public, in which Mr Hansen’s letter places him, of being the original promulgator of the apparently false reports.—Yours truly, David Anderson, Kakaramea, August 20.
