SIR, —Will yon allow me through the medium of your widely-circulated journal to contradict absolutely a statement which has been industriously circulated in Kakaramea during the last two or three weeks damaging to my character, and if, true, rendering pae perfectly unfit to mix on equal terms with my fellow-settlers. It has been publicly stated by Mr John McKenzie at the Kakaramea Hotel, that I had taken a beast which did not belong to me, and killed it, and he thought he could prove I had sold part of the meat. I have charged Mr McKenzie with promulgating this falsehood, and ho shelters himself under the wings of Mr D Anderson, stating him as his authority. I have charged Mr Anderson with spreading the report to Mr McKenzie, and he states that he has not spoken to McKenzie on the matter at any time. Hero, therefore, the parties join issue ; meanwhile unless McKenzie can prove these words, he must rest under the stigma of having made a statement about me which is most damaging and utterly untrue, and totally unfounded. Perhaps Mr McKenzie, on seeing this letter, will explain his position in the matter more satisfactorily than he has been able to do so far to me. I feel impelled to write this letter in self-defence.—Yours f rn i v Jambs Hansen. for Patea Mail. Hawera— Mr Wanklyn &Mr Davidson Kakaramea —Mr Slater Manuiahi —Mr Whittem Normanhy —Mr Gibson Waimate Plains and Manaia —Mr J Gilmour, Manaia Wctverley —Mr F P Fookes
