HUMAN DOCTORS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—-I notice the kindly wish of our most rotund councillor that some human doctors might be imported into the place.;,. jFreely interpreted this means doctors who will work for nothing. I wish a few human grocers could be imported at the same lime, but I fear they would not be likely to get as fat as Falstaff. It is unreasonable to expect any one person or any one class to do the whole charily of a district. 1 have more than my fair share of attendance on the poor for which I am unremunerated, but if our, hospital is to be closed and actually no provision whatever is made for this class of cases, I feel compelled to remonstrate at the chief burden of them being thrust on me. On ,two (Occasions recently, a certain J.P. has volunteered to pay the expenses of urgent or distressing cases, but it is as manifestly unjust the burden should fall on him as on me or our mercantile friend, when the whole com/Tnnnity should share it, and so make it to each member. I Will'challenge Mr Merchant so far as to say that. I will, undertake to: pay in charity, in actual cash, as much as; hejwill for any undeniably good objects up to £lO. ,I'.shall certainly.lay claim io'as much humanity t as: my goodnatured but' hastily indignant friend.— I am, &c., , , ; ;f W. P. Keating. Ang. 10.^^
