Latest accounts .to hand from Cassamiciolo show conclusively that nearly 2000 persons were killed by the recent earthquake, and that fully 1000 have received injuries of a more or less serious nature. NEW YORK, July 32. The body of the late Captain Webb has been recovered in Niagara River, near Lewiston. It was most terfiblj battered by its passage dowjr,the stream. CAPETOWN, July 80. Intelligence has been received here from Port Elizabeth that James Carey, the Phoenix Park informer, was shot dead yesterday, on board the steamer Melrose, by a man named who had been a fellow-passenger him from London. The attack was & very sudden one, and Carey died instantly of the wound received. AUSTRALIAN. [REUTER —COPYRIGHT, j (Received' July 31, 12.55 p.m.) PERTH, July 30. r ‘ The steamer Patham has arrived here from England, and it is stated that among the passengers are the Phoenix Park informers, Kavanagh, Smith, Murphy, and Kelly, who are travelling under assumed names. The news, however, is not yet confirmed.
