BOROUGH EXPENDITURE.
A special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Monday evening, to consider a report of the Works Committee re the apportioning of the rates for this year. There were present—-The Mayor, and Crs Mahony, Adams, McCarthy, Aitchison, and Paul. The report was as follows : —■ “To the Mayor and Councillors, Patea Borough—- “ Your Works Committee have the honour to submit for your consideration the appropriation of the rate of one shilling in the £ now under proposal, amounting to £456, as under: Total income of rate when collected ... ... ... £456 APPROPRIATION. Sand—removal and forming in Victoria and Lincoln sts., authorised by Council ... £2O Earth work—cutting and filling west end Victoria 5t..,. £3O Gravelling footpath, Victoria st., south side,commencing at Coach Factory £lO Forming, &c., footpaths, Egmont street North... ... £3O Temporarily forming footpath Warwick st., and repairs Hadfield st. .... ... £lO Repairs Stafford st., east end... £5 Gravel footpath, Devon st. south ... ... ... £5 General repairs, footpaths, and main road ... £96 Day labour £l6O Miscellaneous' £IOO Total £466 The Mayor said the Committee did not see their way to enter into any new contracts yet. Their object was to complete those already begun. They had no idea of putting on a special rate, ns they believed the ordinary rate of one shilling would meet all liabilities. The Report was received and adopted without discussion, and the Council then adjourned.
