DETERMINED SUICIDE.
A case of suicide of a very shocking character occurred at Manutahi on E’riday morning. A man named Joseph Crozier, who recently had been working at Treweek’s Boiling Down Works, near Hawera, arrived at Manutahi on Tuesday morning, when he was employed by Mr Whittem in his butchery. Yesterday morning, about half-past 8, Crozier was discovered quite dead, lying on his back in a pool of blood in the shop, his throat gashed in a most horrible manner, and with a largo butcher’s knife beside him. The body was conveyed to the Manutahi Hotel, where an inquest was held at 11 o’clock on Saturday morning. • No reason whatever can bo assigned for the deed, for it is believed that Crozier had not boon drinking for some time past. The deceased at one time worked for Mr Purcell, butcher, of Wanganui. He has been married twice and lias a stepdaughter residing at Sea View, Wanganui, who has the charge of two of his children, for the maintenance of which deceased was some time ago wanted to provide but said he was unable to do so.
