Public Announcements. Re Payment of Workmen employed on contracts let by Public Works Department. i TTENTION is called to Clause 23 Xjl of the Conditions of Contract, which provides that workmen, tradesmen, and labourers of every class employed on the works to which these conditions refer shall be paid their wages in full in money, current coin of the colony, at least once in every fortnight, and no ticket or other system of payment by provisions, liquors, or goods will on any pretence be allowed. The workmen of every class shall be paid on the works if it be possible, or in some building adjoining, and in no case shall they be paid at a pnblichouse or other place where liquors or refreshments are sold. The penally for any breach of this clause, as often as the same shall happen, is fifty pounds ; and it is lawful for the Minister for Public Works, without any notice to the contractor, or any further process of law, to deduct the penalty or penalties from any monies that may be due or owing to the contractor nnder this contract, or that may hereafter be due or owing thereunder. Eight sections in CAPE SURVEY DISTRICT, comprising 290 acres, will be offered for SALE FOR CASH, by public auction, at the upset price of £2 10s to £3 10s per acre, on Wednesday, the Ist August, at the Land Office, New Plymouth. Six forfeited deferred-payment sections in WAIROA and OTOIAOPAKU DISTRICTS,. comprising 684 acres, will be offered for sale on DEFERRED PAYMENTS, at £1 10s to £4 per acre, by pubic auction on Saturday, the 4th August, at the Land Office, Patea. The valuation for improvements will have to be paid for in cash at the time of auction. Nine forfeited deferred-payment sections in WAIMATE, KAUPOKONUI, and HAWERA SURVEY DISTRICTS, comprising 639 acres, will be offered for sale on DEFERRED PAYMENTS, at £1 10s to £6 per acre, by public auction, on Wednesday, the Bth August, at the Land Office, Hawera.
