THE ANNEXATION OF NEW GUINEA.
In the house of Commons on Thursday, the Hon Evelyn Ashley, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, stated in reply to a question, that Sir Thomas Mcllwraith, Premier of Queensland, had telegraphed to the Colonial Office that strong dissention prevails in the colony at the decision arrived at by the Imperial Government on the question of the proposed annexation of New Guinea; Mr Ashley added that the Government still considered the proposal to be premature.
