THE DIVORCE COURT.

(per press association.) WELLINGTON, This day. At the Divorce Court this morning, the case of Thompson v Tnompson and Watt was commenced. The husband’s petition is for a dissolution of marriage on the grounds of his wife’s adultery with the co-respondent. The petitioner also claims £IOOO damages. The parties were married in England in 1875, and came to Nelson, where they resided until 1881. During that period petitioner visited Fiji twice, and on his last return from there he found that his wife had flown with the co-respondent, who is the son of a runholder in the Wairau district. Tho case lasted all day.

On account of the roughness of tho v sea on the bar the Waverley has been detained till to-morrow at 4. ■ Mr J Gibson has lersed a corner shop in Manaia, and will open it as a general store upon the cash principle. , . , _ • Mr W L Dean, the courteous clerk of the R.M. Court, lias. 1 received wellmerited promotion, and will leave Patca next week for Cromwell, where he will hold a similar appointment. He will also act as Gold Receiver, and we are glad to hear that ho will also receive gold by way of additional salary to a substantial amount. Mr Barclay, of Christchurch, succeeds Mr Dean.
