ALLEGED DISCOVERY OF GOLD IN CANTERBURY.

f PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. J CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. Information was received to-day by Mr E. Wicks, of the Mining Exchange, that a payable goldfield has been discovered in Canterbury by three prospectors. The wash-dirt is sand, showing fine gold very plainly, and also minute garnets and rubies. The locality will not be published till £SOO is guaranteed to the discoverers, who state that the field is of considerable area, and the sinking not more than four feet. The discovery was made four months ago, arid the samples analysed by the Government analyst at Wellington show an average at between 26 and 33 dwts per ton.
