The Verdict. ]_PER PRESS ASSOCIATION^ NELSON, June 21. In the Lyell murder case the jury retired at midnight, and after an absence of forty-five minutes,; returned a verdict of manslaughter. ' Prisoner, in reply to the Judge, Said he had been convicted on

the oath of a perjured prostitute and two perjured constables. The Judge sentenced him. to penal servitude for life, saying at the same time the jury had taken a very merciful view of the case, as the evidence fully justified a verdict of wilful murder. The case has created a lot of excitement. The Court was crowded the whole time.
