THE FIRE BRIGADE.
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Kindly allow me, through your valuable paper, to make a few remarks on the recent fire at Lundberg’s warehouse. 1 think, sir, that the services of our brigade ought now to be recognised, both by the townspeople, Borough Council, and Insurance Companies, as they proved themselves competent to do some good when called on, as the recent fire has proved, and it was by their exertions and the help of the townspeople that a serious fire was prevented ; and, as the Brigade will be disbanded unless means are provided to carry it on, it is now the time to take some action to maintain an ininstitution that has proved itself able to do good when required. It might appear presumptuous on my part to crack up our brigade, but having been in command since I founded it, I feel I am only doing vmy duty in thanking* those ,wbo worked under me and others who so ably assisted in extinguishing the late fire, as I feel certain that had we been five minutes later tiie whole block both-sides of Egmont street would now be in ashes. Hoping you will assist as all you can through the Press,—Yours, &c., ' ' William Djxon, Captain P.V.F.B.
