FIRE AT WELLINGTON.
[per PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, This day. At a few minutes to six last night a fire broke out in a three-roomed house in Abel Smith street, owned and occupied by Mr Lawrence.: The family had tea between 4 and 5 ’o'clock in the kitchen; arid then went into the parlour. Their attention was called by smoke, and the kitchen was discovered in a blaze. The flames spread very rapidly, only a little front room furniture being saved. The house was insured in the National for £4OO, . and the furniture for £250 in the Union. The fire spread rapidly to the adjoining five roomed cottage, owried and occupied by Captain Short, of fhe Comet. Nearly all the contents were got out safely. The Captain and Mrs Short were both absent from Wellington, but a family occupied the house, which was insured in the South British for £250. It is not known if the furniture was insured. The house of Mr Prouse was also on fire, but not much damaged. The contents were removed. The house and furniture were insured for £SOO in the South British, hut the loss is trifling. Another cottage, owned by Mrs Mears, also caught fire, hut was very little sured for £IOO in the National. The Fire Brigade arrangements were very unsatisfactory.
