VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The Patea Rifles were inspected last night by Major Stapp, who also marched the corps out loathe Barrack’s Square and gave them .some very useful instruction drill. The Major complimented the men, and '■ their section commanders for Ihe very efficient way they had performed their drill. The company were afterwards handed over to Captain Taplin, -who. marched the men into fhevbarracks, for the purpose of obtaining signatures for all : Government and Company property in the possession of each individual. Major Stapp, before leaving the room, was asked to present a trophy, in the shape of a cup, to Volunteer Nutsford. Tin’s Cup was: given, many years ago by Mr Maguire, who has. left the district, to be competed for by all volunteers in the Patea County, and whoever won the Cup twice in succession was to be the sole owner, and we are very pleased that it has been secured by a member of the local corps.
