MAJOR ATKINSON AT NELSON.
[PER PRESS 1 A'SSOCSiATibN.]" NELSON, June 7, Major Atkinson delivered his address on National Insurance at the Theatre last night. 800 persons were present, and he was accorded a most favorable receptipn. His address was in .most respects similar to his previous utterances elsewhere, but he said he proposed in his scheme to make it optional whether persons joined, Friendly Societies or came under the scheme. He stated that .the National Insurance accounts would be kept separate, and felt certain’that the contributions would be more than, sufficient to provide for the that any excess should be for the benefit of the people, either by increasing'the sick allowances or annuities, or by a return similar to an insurance bonus. •' ! The following resolution was passed by a large majority, “ That in the opinion of this' ■ meeting = the scheme of National Insurance, as propounded by the Hon Major Atkinson, has much to recommend it, but that in its preliminary state.it is premature to pass any decisive resolution,” An unanimous vote of thanks was given to Major Atkinson", -
