OUR INSPECTOR OF FOOTPATHS.
The gentleman (Mr Kirkpatrick) who has been overseer of footpaths in Bedford Btreet\,for i the j last, few weeks CWas; the subject of a brief conversation in the Hawera Borough Council .on, Wednesday. After the report of the Foreman of Works had been read, Councillor Winks said that he - thought -Kirkpatrick'should how be charged with the penalty for not proceeding . with his -kerbihg contract. The material was ready, but the work was not going on. .He moved, “ That Kirkpatrick be charged the penalty of £1 per day for from. 29th'May last.” Seconded by Councillor McLdowie. The Mayor said that, Mr Beere had explained to lhim,,.that ihe had kept Mr Kirkpatricktlin Patea longer , than he ; had expectedjo and: said that on the first occasion the delay jwas j Messrs Southey and W illy’a. fault, ;<- Council lor; Winks, in j reexplained that his object was to; keep contractors up must let all* off if they let off one. Motion jCarjiied. - v.,-. p . Mr Kirkpatrick is therefore in the "pleasant position of earning 10s per .day from the Patea Borough, and being fined £1 per"day by' the H awera Council.
