SCHOOLS FOR MAORIS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Major Atkinson was asked at his meeting whether the Government would establish schools for Maoris. ' I listened with some curiosity, as aware of a certain clause (10) in the Education Act, for the answer; which was to the effect that the Government.: would be glad to , open schools for natives whenever they represented that the number of children required by the Act would attend. Permit me to quote the ’clause referred to. CJO) “Nothing in this Act shall be binding on any Maori ; but any Maori shall be at liberty' to send bis children to a public school under this Act, subject to the regulations for the time being in force in such school.” —l am, &c., ‘ Pakeha,
