BOROUGH WATER CHANNELS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Anyone passing np or down Bedford street must have noticed the splendid water channels, which have been laid in the latest approved method of asphalting, for which it is I belie intended to register a patent., Borough authorities have, I am told, supplied the contractor with several casks of cement, which naturally assimilates so well with tar that an extra hard and durable, substance is obtained, particularly when the cement is applied as a coat of whitewash might be. The great advantages of this plan are, that before long nice little holes are sluiced out, which it is intended, I presume, shall form clean and easy drinking basins for passing stock, or perhaps they will serve for means of recreation to the juveniles of Patea. Further, an increased demand for cement is created, thereby fostering the trade of the port and the business of the storekeepers, and supplying an outlet for the surplus cash of the borough "ratepayers. I shall look for the Council to pass a vote of thanks to the gifted genius who has supplied such a great desideratum.—Yonrs, etc., Tar Brush.
