KAKARAMEA.
[From our Correspondent.] Thursday. . Our township and environs seera to be Rotting ralh’er notorious for accidents. !Tis but a very little lime ago that I had to record one-winch happened to a resident at, jVoodville, and I have now: to notify another of a still more serious character, which happened on Wednesday morning to Mr G Mair, of Hawera. Mr Mair was driving his team up the hill towards the Boiling-down Works, and found it necessary to apply the whip to one of his horses. The animal instantly let out and struck the unfortunate man severely on ' the lower jaw, lacerating the flesh.and splintering the bone. Assisted by Mr Bfbdie he reached the Wharhcliffe Hotel, and., was subsequently attended by Dr Keating, who caused him to be conveyed to the Hospital. Tc-.lay lie was taken home in a low state by his brother, Mr A Mair, of Hawera. It is to be feared that his recovery will be a work of some, time. V Nothing, up to (he present, has been done towards starting a cheese and butter factoiy, regarding which, a short time ago, there was a goon deal of talk. - In other places, not a hundred miles from us, they are entering into the spirit of the thing with an earnestness which promises good results.; ; Why there should be such apathy in a district like this where everything is cenducive to success is beyond comprehension. | Many will .be pleased to learn that, the :Snnday School at the Town ; Hall,--which lias been discontinued for some" time past, *is to be reorganised under the superintendence of the: Bev, Mr Thompson, thq i Presbyteriah clergyman of Patea.. I anv I told that the ladies of the district also will render their valuable assistance.
