HARBOUR BOARD.

Special Meeting*. A special meeting of the Board was held at 3 p.m. on Monday; Present—the Chairman (Mr Gibson), Messrs R. A. Adams, J, Richards, J. {Shield, C. Syrnes. The proposed alterations and amendments in the wharfage rates were gone through seriatim , and on the motion of the Chairman,seconded by Mr Adams, were unanimously adopted. The by-laws will come into force on July Ist. It was intended that the new scale should commence simultaneously with the opening of the railway, but as the period for that event seemed indefinite the Board considered that they had better begin with the half year. Ordinary Meeting. Ordinary business was then proceeded with. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read : , ' ' From the Engineer, re damage to river. (This has already been published). From the Public Works Department, acknowledging complaint from the Chairman re damage to river, and stating that the matter had been referred to the Marine Engineer. From Mr J Thomson, enclosing letter from Mr E Barton, to the effect that Messrs Thomson and Fraser were not liable for rent of Tregea’s portion of lease from the Board, but that said portion reverted to the Board, The letter was ordered to lie on the table. From Mr B Barton, applying for costs in action against Wilkie, and threatening execution if not paid. The Clerk stated that Mr Hamertnn had paid the costs. From Mr Ulic Burke, asking the Board to relieve him of his lease of Harbour Reserve at the Heads. It was resolved to decline the request, pilot’s report. Captain Flowerday reported:—The Bar is in about the same condition as last reported, very little alteration having taken place in the channel except that it has

widened out at the seaward end of tho Breakwater. In reference to the Railway embankment, the contractors have commenced protecting a portion of it with sandstone. Everything is in good working order at the station. There have been eight arrivals and eight departures during the month. The report was received. wharfinger's report. The Wharfinger reported everything in order. The receipts for the month were : —Oash, £7O 12s 8d ; outstanding accounts, £4O Os 2d ; due on goods in store, £2 9s. Total £ll3 Is lOd. ACCOUNTS, The following were passed'for payment: —G. D, Hamerton, £9 16s 4d ; J. H. Brown, £1 10s ; J. Gibson, 4s ; Patea Mail , lls 3d ; J. Kenworthy, £2 4s 6d Total, £l4 6s Id. pilot’s reserve. It was resolved to telegraph to Major Atkinson re the truth or otherwise of a report that part of the reserve was to be given to the Boiling-down Company. The Board then adjourned.
