THE PILOT RESERVES.
At the meeting of the Harbour Board this afternoon, Mr Adams brought for ward a question of some interest to the public. He said that it was rumoured that the Patea Boiling Down Company had. received a promise of five acres of the Pilot Reserve, as compensation for land at the rear of the works taken by the railway authorities'. The use of the pilot reserve was included in the pilot’s wages, and he objected to any part of ii being taken away, The five acres which had been promised included where the flagstaff and lighthouse were. Mr Richards had also heard the same thing. Mr Symes asked if the reserves were in the Board’s hands. Mr Adams said they were not, but the Board had the management of them. Before, the matter went too far they should write to the Government, After a short discussion it was resolved to telegraph at once to Major Atkinson stating what had come to the ears of the Board, ami asking if it were'true, so that the mailer could be brought up'at the public meeting to-morrow if necessary.
