Intelligence is to hand frbm.Cabul announcing that further fighting had occurred between the Ameer’s troops and the Afghan rebel tribes. A. desperate attempt was made by the Shinewarris, who were recently repulsed, to repair their loss, but they were again severely defeated, their loss being estimated at fully 700 killed. The tribes who hitherto refused to give allegiance to the' Ameer are now tendering their submission, and it is believed that the pacification of his kingdom will shortly be completed by flio Atnppr. (Received May 18, 2.15 p.m.) LONDON, May 17. De Lesseps has published a statement to the effect that the present Company would be prepared to construct a second canal through the Isthmus of Suez. Joseph Mullet and It. McCuffery, have been found guilty of participating in the Phoenix Park murders and been sentenced to 10 years penal servitude. Thomas Doyle received a sentence of five years. Edward O’Brien, William Marony, and Daniel Delaney who pleaded guilty, have been sentenced to 10 years servitude. The special commission lor the trial of the Phoenix Park prisoners has now dosed. Her Majesty’s gunboats Goshawk and Raven have been ordered to proceed to Australia to replace : the sd.eimcrs now on that station.
