STEAMERS IN TROUBLE

(PER press association.) BLENHEIM May 17. The steamer Lyttelton, laden with flour and pollard for Wellington, struck a snag near the junction of the Wairan and Opawa rivers last night, and on reaching the flats it was found that she was making water rapidly. A considerable portion of the cargo was discharged, but it is believed that fully two-thirds is damaged by water. The cargo was consigned to Turnbull and Co., Wellington, and it is not knovrn if it was insured. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 17. The steamer Oroti, which rvcnt ashore at the mouth of the Waitara river on Tuesday morning, is not off yet. She is not expected to float until next spring tides. This day. The steamer Oretx was got ofl; last night and will'leavc for Manukan to-night.
