SUPPOSED MURDER AT CHEVIOT.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, May 17. The Daily Times correspondent at Roxburgh telegraphs that the body of a man has been found at a creek between Moa Flat and the Pomahaka River, in the Cheviot district. It is stated that the body was covered with stones, and the head had apparently been chopped off and placed near the feet. It is believed that the man was murdered, and his clothes buried. There is still a portion of the flesh adhering to the bones, and from the appearance of the body it is surmised that an attempt was made to burn the body. The police have gone to the spot.
