VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The Patea Rifles held their usual weekly parade last night, Captain Taplin in charge. They were extremely unfortunate in their march out with the band, it having come on to rain in torrents as they were marching up Egmont street, so that the men were ordered to double for shelter where they could best get it. When the rain ceased the men fell in again at the Drill Shed for the purpose of electing a lieutenant vice Mr Barton resigned. Sergt. Harris had given notice of motion at the previous parade that ho would nominate Mr H. E. P. Adams, solicitor, to fill the vacancy. He then made a formal resolution which was duly seconded. Colour-Sergt. Kells, Sergt. Kearney, and Volunteer Nutsford were alsonomidated, the two latter gracefully withdrew in favour of Mr Adams. Sergt. Kells was not on parade, but it was stated by several who had requested him to stand that he declined to accept the office, therefore his name was also withdrawn, and Mr Adams was declared duly elected. The first competition for the Captain’s trophy was arranged to bo fired on the Bth, 9th, 10th, and 11th inst., due notice of which will bo posted on the Company’s notice Board. Lieut. Adams and Colonr-Sergt. Kells wore duly elected to fill two vacancies on the committee. The committee afterwards met and appointed a ground committee for the sports, also judges to decide the bayonet competitions. It was decided that there should bo three squads, each of the officers to have charge of a squad. Mr W. Cowern is to be requested to sell the booths, &e., for the forthcoming sports.
