partment of Agriculture is announced. 40Thc portfolio is allotted to the Right Hon. J G. Dodson. In the House of Commons last evening, the Affirmation in Idea of Oaths Bill was again under consideration; In the coarse of the debate, Mr Gladstone made a speech in which he strongly supported the measure. The discussion was, however, adjourned. (Received April 28, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 27. A nitro-glycerine factory has been discovered by the police at Northampton.

Mr Parnell, who has returned to England, has cabled to the Irish Convention at Philadelphia, urging the delegates to adopt a prudent programme. Three Fenians, named' Kingston, Gibney, and Healey, have been arrested at Dublin, charged, on the evidence of an informer, with conspiring to murder. The race for the One Thousand Guineas stakes was run at Newmarket to-day, and resulted as follows: Hatteus, 1; Malibran, 2; Lovely, 3. Michael Pagan, the fourth of the Phoenix Park prisoners, has been found guilty and sentenced to death.

The intercolonial (Victoria v New South Wales) eight-oar race took place to-day over the usual course on the Parramatta River, and resulted in an easy victory for the Victorian crew by six lengths. The winners led from start to finish, and rowed in excellent form. Time, 18min 12sec. The weather was splendidly fine, and the water quite smooth. The contest was witnessed by crowds of people along the banks and on steamers following the boats.
