MAGISTERIAL.
PATEA—YESTERDAY. (Before 0. A. Wray, Esq., E.M.) BREACH OP BOROUGH' BY-LAWS. Patrick McGrath was charged with a breach of the borough by-laws by riding furiously in Bedford street on the 10th hist. Mr Hamerton appeared for the defendant, and sai'l bis client admitted the offence, but stated thAt bis horse shied at a piece of paper and ran away with him. John Peter Neilson Raid he lived in Patea, and on the 10th of April be saw two men tearing furiously up the street. It seemed to him that they were racing, as one of them called out they were racing for 10s. One of them seemed to bo drunk. It was not safe for anyone on the road. Daniel Smith gave corroborative evidence, and defendant was fined 40s with costs, 3ls. Cornelius Dempsey was charged with driving without having his lamps alight. Defendant did not appear, and Sergeant Donovan applied for an adjournment lor a week, which was granted. CIVIL CASES. Lett v Jones.—Claim, £6 Gs 9d. Judgment h}' default for plaintiff. Same v McMastbr. —Mr Hamerton appeared for defendant* and plaintiff was non-snitod. Same v T. E. Hamerton.—Case adjourned for a week.
