J ; (Received April 17, 1 a.in.) ■ _ LONDON, April 16. • An official bulletin issued this morning regarding the health of the Qncon, announces that Her Majesty continues to improve. Her recovery from the accident she met with at Windsor Castle is, however, "slow, and it will be impossible for Her Majesty to stand or walk for some time. - The foreman of the jury by which the prisoner, Brady was convicted of the murder of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke .has received several threatening letters, and' is under continued police protection. ; Bernard Gallagher, who was arrested at Glasgow in connection with Fenian conspiracies in various cities in England, has been conveyed from Glasgow to London, It is, however, denied that he has turned informer against bis alleged accomplices.. In consequence of the revelations which have been made by a prisoner now undergoing sentence of penal, servitude regarding the case of murder arid conspiracy at Clare, Ireland, ten persons have been arrested by the police. (Received April 17, 1-40 p.m.) April 16 (evening.) In the House of Commons to-day, a question was put to the Under-Secretary for the Colonies regarding the reported annexation of New Guinea. In reply, the Hon. Evelyn Ashley confirmed the announcement, and informed the House that the Island had been taken by the Queensland Government in the name of Her Majesty the Queen, pending the decision by the Imperial Government on the subject. The Hon.- E. .Ashley added that the annexation was deemed expedient in order to prevent the acquisition of New Guinea by Foreign Powers. . The trial of Daniel Curley, the second of the prisoners charged witn the murder of Lord. Cavendish and Mr Burke, was commenced. in Dublin to-day. On the opening of the Court, eight jurors who had, been summoned were found to be absent, and were fined £IOO each. (SPECIAL TO PRESS ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, April 18, At the convention in America, a Fenian named Stephens predicted that Parnell would yet be compelled to appeal to the sword; Colonel Fred Burnaby is suffering from congestion of the lungs.
