[_per press association.] AUCKLAND, April 5. The Hinemoa arrived at Onehunga this evening with the Governor and suite. The Premier went out from .Auckland by special train to receive him. NAPIER, April 5. The Synod only sat this afternoon, and the proceedings were not of a very interesting character. The chief part of the time was spent in discussing a motion by Archdeacon Williams for preparing a digest of the statutes of the Synod. The motion was ultimately carried. The Bishop of Wellington caused a little sensation by giving notice of motion strongly condemning, as not in accordance with the instructions of the Synod, the Bill for the incorporation of Diocesan Trust Boards introduced into Parliament last session, but not carried. Archdeacon Stock tabled a motion for a definition of the word “ Communicant,” bnt withdrew it at the suggestion of the Bishop of Nelson, who advised him to bring in a Bill at once. A WELLINGTON, April 5. It is expected that His Excellency the Governor will stay in Auckland a month, after which he will visit Napier. The Supreme Court criminal sessions were concluded to-day. William Foreman, formerly captain of the schooner Julius Vogel, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on a charge of forging a receipt, and two-years’ for embezzlement, the sentences to run concurrently. The next sitting of the Appeal Court in Wellington is fixed for the 16th of May. DUNEDIN, April o. The Hon. Major Atkinson told the deputation from the Taranaki Iron Sand Company that he thought the case was one for compromise, and said that Government adhered to their offer of last session. The insurances on the late fire are; —Mr Nicholson, commission agent, £SO on stock'; Mr Spiers, bookseller, £SO on house, and £l5O on stock and furniture; Mr Woods, baker, £2OO on house, and £3OO on stock and baker’s plant; all in the Imperial office. A policy of £2OO in the New Zealand office on the Masonic Hotel, owned by Mr S Pollock, ran out three days previous to the fire.
