The following business wss trnnsneted after wo went, to press on Wednesday : ratepayers’ petition. A petition was presented to the
Council by Cr Wilson, from ratepayers in Nos 1 and 2 wards, Wairoa Highway Board, praying that the Council would grant a separate Road Board to the wards mentioned. Gn the motion of Or Bridge, seconded by Cr Horner, it was resolved, “ That the petition of the Wairoa ratepayers be returned to Cr Wilson for the purpose of having the declaration provided for;in section 16, Road Boards Act, 1882, attached.” It was further resolved, “ That the chairman and Or Foreman should report as to whether the requirements of the Road Board Act, 1882, have been complied with.” CLOSING THE HOSPITAL. It was proposed by Cr Wilson seconded by Cr Howie “ That unless the necessary Government funds are immediately forwarded in accordance with promise made in telegram of February 17, 1888, notice be given to the Government (a copy of which to be served on the surgeon and steward of hospital) that at the expiration of 10 days from date the institution be closed.” MISCELLANEOUS. ‘ The following were carried : “ That the Council claim solicitor’s expenses, incurred in prosecuting J. Black, from his sureties,” “ That application be made to Government for £2OO on Engineer’s report that the necessary amount has been expended on Drain Road.” “ That the Engineer be requested to see that the ditch opened by Waverley Town Board be secured safely.” “That all persons against whom judgments were obtained for rates be proceeded against at once.”
