RUSDEN'S HISTORY OF NEW ZEALAND.
The long, promised history of New Zealand, by Mr G W;Bnsclen, has at length been issued by ’Chapman and Hall, and if bulk goes, for anything, ought to he a comprehensive "work. It is in three heavy volumes, and.costs two pounds ten shillings, a fact which has caused most of the circulating libraries to decline to purchase it. Certainly (writes a London correspondent) I am not going to pay that ranch for the privileges of perusing a history of the colony,- unless Mr Kusclen turns generous and sends me a copy. New Zealanders will have .to go on living without knowing what, the late Clerk of the Parliament in Victoria thinks about them. To tell the truth, the deprivation would not be heartbreaking. I saw the, work on a secondhand bookstall yesterday, - which, considering it was only published a week ago, does not look promising. ; Moreover, the few pages -at which I glanced suggested the criticism, “ vamped Up!”
