THE PATEA BAND.
TO THE EDITOR'. • r Sir, —With your permission I would like to say a few words about the local brass band. I was very sorry to see such a very poor attendance at last'*-' 'Shn'day’s parade, but, on enquiry, am not all surprised It ; -appears , that the leading players strongly object to swear in under the new volunteer regulations. I don’t blame them. The Major distinctly states that he will' not allow any civilian to assist at a marching out, hence the small attendance. sir, is it not time that .those townspeople who'subscribed money to purchase the instruments foi* a tnion band, take some steps to ;have a band which would be a credit to the place ? The instruments belong mostly to the town, and should have been vested in trustees as was. at first intended. I trust some one will move in this matter. I can state, without fear of contradiction, that tfie old members would.joln a town band, and by doing so would make it what it was six months ago--—a credit to Patea.— Yours, &c,, A Lover of Musio.
