LONDON SEED TEADE
Messrs John Shaw and Sons, of 37 Mark Lane, London, report through their agent, Mr Leonard W. Blake, of Christchurch, that the market during the fortnight ending January 25th, was in a very excited state. As might have been expected, the universal shortness of crops and the acknowledged lightness of stocks, were producing their natural effect in enhancing prices all round. Red clover seeds must be written fully 3s to 4s dearer, and white clover from 6s to 8s per cwt dearer, at which advance a good many purchases had been made by speculators, the impression being that prices would go a good bit higher ere long. Fine alsyke was from 2s to 3s cwt dearer, and choice trefoil Is cwt dearer. Foreign Italian was quiet, at late rales. Canary, although in alow request, was firm. Hemp seed was dull. Rape was firm. .
