COUNTY COUNCIL.

The following business was transacted after we went to press on Wednesday : THE HOSPITAL., The Hospital surgeon reported that three patients had been admitted during February and four discharged, leaving seven remaining, as follow: - John Sullivan, heart disease;. Jphn Dougherty, ulcerations ; James Kerrisk, fractured leg ; Wm. Brown, ulcers; Hugh McDonagh, injury of spine; Sami. Curtis, bronchitis ; Janies Tollens, ulcers. The report also stated that a covered drain was required to carry off house slops. It was resolved to instruct the Engineer to have the work done. engineer's report. The Engineer reported :—There are only three surfare men employed on main roads, and it is not expedient to discharge them, as by so doing accidents may arise through default in culverts or bridges. I would urge upon your Council the necessity of at least placing black sand on the approaches to the Manawapou bridge, not only to facilitate the traffic, but also as a protection to the bridge. If this matter is simply a financial question I would suggest that Fairweather’s Hill portion of the contract be transferred to Manawapou, and arrangements bo made with the contractor accordingly. It might be well to communicate with the Hawera County as to whether they would wish their side of the bridge to receive a coat of sand, and boar the proportionate expense,

It was decided to endeavour to arrange with Mr Barton to act for the Council in all Court cases in future. VACANT SECTIONS. There being a quantity of unpaid rates on vacant sections, it was decided to communicate with the Public Trustee with a view to selling the land if possible. ’ - AMOUNT DUE FROM GOVERNMENT. The opinion was expressed by councillors that an effort should be made to get the money due from Government on Hospital account. The following resolution, proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Or Sullivan, was carried : “ That the following councillors constitute a committee to deal with the Hospital accounts : the chairman, Crs Bridge, Wilson, and Foreman.” RATES IN ARREARS. It was resolved to bring a test case against Mr McGregor of Nonnanby to recover rates due. ' This was all the business.* s - '
