The death is announced here of Mr Alexander Hamilton Stephens, VicePresident of the Confederate States daring the American war, and subsequently a member of the Senate, aged 71. Both Houses of Congress have bepn prorogued. The new Tariff Bill was signed by President Arthur to-day. Syme", proprietor of the Melbourne Age and Leader*, on account of ah article which appeared in the latter paper commenting upon the running of plaintiff’s horses, was concluded to-day, a verdict being returned for defendant.
