WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
The monthly meeting, of the above Board was held on Saturday, March 3rd. Present —Messrs McLean, Johnston, Howie, Aiken and lon (chairman.)
The Treasurer’s balance showed General account, £159 3s 7d ; block VIII, £lO3 16s 7d ; block IX, dr,, £lO. A report was received from the foreman of works, stating that J. Hughes had finished his contract on Nicholson’s road, and that Fyfe and Hughes had finished the bridge over the Wairoa stream and commenced the Karihaka bridge; also, recommending that the latter should be two feet higher than was intended. The late flood had considerably damaged the old bridge. Sundry work had been done on Wick’s road. The pipes for the Middle Mangatangi road had not yet arrived. Several slips had occurred on the Momahaki roads, to blocks YIII and IX, block IX bridge being considerably damaged by the fresh. The flood at Karihaka had carried away some" of the timber for the new bridge. Letters were read From the Property Tax Department informing the Board,that the statements of va'nes were forwarded, and requesting the Board to correct any omissions or errors therein. From Mr A. Milne, enclosing cheque for £SO on account of Okutuku Road ; from Patea County Council, asking for information re Boundaries of District and subdivisions ; from Mr 0. Hawes, re compensation for land taken for road deviations j from D. Williamson and others requesting the Board to communicate with tlic Government with a view to a grant being made to open the road to Block 4 ; from Mr C Thomas re Okotukn road deviation ; from Mr J Ht nson asking if the necessary plans had been, sent to Wellington for loan Roads and Bridges Construction Act ; from Mr J Riddle, jun, asking for an interview with the Board re Taylor’s Hill road ; from Mr D Williamson calling attention Go, Block YIII, Bridge approaches. : The following accounts were passed for payment: —Hughes arid Fyfe, £l3 ; J W Hughes, £25 ;F P Fookes, £6 Is 7d ; \ E G Ross, £7 7s ;J B Taylor, £l9 16s 8d ; A H F Mason, £7l 9s. n t Resolved ‘‘ That the Foreman of Works get (be : necessary repairs done at once to Blocks YIII and IX bridges, and have slips removed on same roads;’’ “That the Board replace the timber lost in ,the Karihaka stream“ That the chairman and/ Mr Johnston see to the revision of the valuation roll“ That the Board write to the Minister of Lands enclosing copy of memorial from. Messrs W 7 illiamson and others and recommending same “That Messrs Bradley and Aiken receive uoticc to remove gates on road leading from Momahaki station as soon as they can get fences erected “ That Mr Hawes’ letter stated over for one month. Several settlers waited on the Board re the opening and repairing of sundry roads. Resolved, “ That a special meeting-be held on Saturday the 10th insr,, at 3 p.m,” ! The meeting then adjourned.
