GREAT FIRE AT INVERCARGILL.

(PER TRESS ASSOCIATION.) 1 INVERCARGILL; March 1, ... An extensive fire broke out at 10.80 last night,in the brick shop,of Dunlop,-draper, Tay Street. The fire appeared to. .break out in the front shop. The premises, which consisted of a fine two-story building, with the contents, were completely destroyed. There is no insurance on the stock. Ross, a fruit seller, and Captain of the Fire Brigade, had a similar building next door to the eastward, but this was saved. Hay and Co.’s store was also destroyed, but a large quantity of goods was removed. The shop of Perkins, a tailor Goodwildie, saddler ; .and;: two front shops were gutted. Raines’ butchery was pulled down to stop the progress of the flames. In Price and Bullin’s large warehouse the fire ,was still raging at midnight, but" is not likely to destroy property of great value, FURTHER PARTICULARS. No other buildings beyond those already telegraphed were burnt. Insurances, so far as known, are—Dunlop’s shop, owned by Delaney and Moir, £2OO in South British and £2OO in Liverpool and Globe ; Dunlop’s stock, £IOOO in Victoria ; Hay’s stock, damaged, £2OO in the Royal and £SO in the Mutual ; Hay’s building, £IOO in Mutual ; Goodwillie’s stock (saved) and building, £550 in Victoria ; Riordan’s, fruiterer, building, £SO in North British ; Farnie, painter, stock damaged by removal £SO in Victoria, and £l5O on building in Standard ; v ßoss, photographer) stock damaged, £3OO in Norwich Union, and £2OO on building in Liverpool and Globe. The origin of the fire is a mystery. Dunlop estimates his loss at £3OOO, and oayes at £IOOO.
