MR FREEMAN R. JACKSON’S FORT ■NIGHTLY STOCK REPORT. - ; Wednesday, Jan 24. The business done during the past fortnight has been, very limited,- the continued dry weather preventing any. operations in stbek. At, Waverley a large number of sheep were penne 1, but the bulk had to be turned out unsold. At Hawera I sold nearly all, the sheep at reduced prices, and about one-third of the cattle entered. At St Hil-street tc-day it was almost impossible to place anything. A Eter the auction 1 sold all the sheep, but the who’c of the cattle, except two pens cf beef, were turned otxt. The welcome rain this afternoon, should it continue, will make some alteratio . in the stock trade, though the outlook, except for* beef, is not very encouraging. The almost total- failure of (the turnip crop must reduce the fattening capabilities of the district; hence during the ensuing winter I expect fat stock to soil higher; than, for some years past. Cattle.- At Waverley 95 head ■ were yarded, but none sold. At Hawera 244’ head came forward—Fat cows, £4 15s .cows and calves, £4 ; IR-montb-old steers, £2 17s Gd.
