KAKARAMEA.

(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) Wednesday. A meeting of the Sports Committee was held on Saturday evening, nearly all members being present. It was resolved—- ‘‘ That annual sports be held at Kakaramou, and that the present Committee hold office for one year,” The Chairman and Secretary were authorised to deposit tlie balance, £9 18s 6d, in the Bank of New South Wales. A vote of thanks to the judges, Messrs Jay and Micliie, was passed, and the meeting adjourned sine die. A social dance at the Town Hall on Wednesday, given by the bachelors ot the town and district, proved a great success. About twenty - five couples “tripped it” enthusiastically until 2.30. It is to be hoped that this may prove the forerunner of similar enjoyable assemblies. liain is still badly wanted here. Feed for cattle is getting scarce, and, if the drought continues much longer the consequence to the farmers will be very serious. The weather, of course, is all that can be desired for harvesting, which has already commenced. Tlie yield is expected to be far greater than it has been hitherto. The metals on the railway are now laid nearly as far as the Ball road, and ballasting the line is being proceeded with vigorously. Through the courtesy of Mr Nathan, the contractor, I Was enabled to take a trip down the line as far as the Patea station, and was pleased to see how quickly the work is progressing. Mr Nathan may congratulate himself on having procured a supply of excellent ballast within such an easy distance from tlie line.
