The New Zealand Times suggests that Government labour offices should be opened throughout the colony, holding that thcic is never any scarcity of labour in the colony . only a defective distribution of it. “It is quite true,” says the Times, “ that in Melbourne the labour office opened by the Government of Victoria was a failure. But when it is borne in mind that the superintendence of that office was tacked on to the duties of the inspector of distilleries ! the cause of the failure must be sufficiently apparent. Hu eh a labour office as we would propose, if presided over by a suitable person, would not directly increase the amount of labour available, but it would enable those who wanted work in very many eases to get it at once, without waiting for it for a long while, expending their anxiety, trouble, time, and money in vain.” The Post says ;—The wool is coming into Wellington so quickly, owing to the late dry weather having been so favourable, for shearing, that the wharf authorities arc at their wit’s end to find storage for it all. A quantity of it, in fact, has had to be stored on private premises in town.
