WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
O-" — The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday, Gth inst. Present: Wardens Aiken, Howie, McLean, -and the Chairman. The Treasurer’s balance was stated to be—General account, £3lO 17s 5d ; Block 8 account, £l4B 4s Id; Block 6 account dr £lO. REPORT. The Foreman of Works handed in his report staling that J. Hughes had finished Watkins hill contract, and almost completed embankment on Hearn and Kennedy’s road, also that W. Hughes had finished the bush clearing to Block 9, Momahaki McGrath’s contract on Block 8 road was proceeding satisfactorily, but not yet completed. Plans and specifications for bridges over Wairoa and Karihaki streams were prepared and cost estimated. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter from Patea East Road enclosing. copy of following resolution; “ That in the opinion of this Board it is advisable that the present boundary line between the Patea East and Wairoa Road districts should be altered, and that the boundary lino between the said districts bo the Whcnnaknra river, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Wairoa Road Board asking for (heir concurrence with the same.” Letter from J. Signal re taking his name off the roll. Letter from Public Works Office, Wellington, acknowledging’ receipt of application under Ronds and Bridges Construction Act, and stating the same would be considered. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts wore passed for payment:—H. F. Mason, £1 12s; J. W. Hughes, £92 6s 3d; James Hughes, £l9. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr R. Garrett, surveyor, waited on the Board with plans, &c., re Okotnkn and Kohi road deviations, and reported on same. Mr Frerc waited on the Board re putting fence across road near his property. Tenders received for Nicholson’s road : P. M’Grath, 39s per chain ; J. Hughes, £2 12s 6d per.chain ; J. W. Hughes 39s per chain ; J. Bowie £37 10s. Resolved, That Mr J. W. Hughes’ tender bo accepted. Resolved, That tenders bo called for bridge over Wairoa stream by next meeting. The Foreman of works was instructed to have the necessary repairs done on Dyke’s road. A resolution was thou passed' that the Secretary write to the Patea East Road Board stating ■ that it is the opinion of the Board that the boundaries should be altered as mentioned in their resolution. Resolved, That the plans of the Okotnkn and Kohi Road deviations lay at Mr Morton’s house for inspection. Resolved, That the Foreman of Works get necessary work done on Cemetery Road.
Resolved, That notice be sent to Messrs Hearn and Kennedy and Morton ami Lnpton to remove the old fences off roads. lloaolvcd, That a special meeting of the Board bo held on Saturday, loth inst,, and a public meeting of ratepayers bo called for same date, at S p.tn., for the purpose of taking their opinion as to the advisabloness of the Board holding office till May, or going out of office at once, the term having expired.
