PATEA HARBOUR.
TO THE ELUTOK. Bik, —“Ancient Mariner” seems to be satisfic'd with the entrance that we have got to Patca by water. It suites him and that is all that ho requires, and whether he is writing in gratitude or to satisfy others, I care not. Cut there is one thing that requires no contradiction and that is that all the mishaps we have had came from that wall. And I contend if it had not been there they would not have happened. As for the spit forming in the centre of the channel if the wall was removed back, every person knows that the .straightcr that water runs the more power it has. Hoping that “ Ancient Mariner” will always be so fortunate with a: strict look-out and a good helmsman, I am &c., Ratepayer, Jan. 1. Letters appearing in the English and Continental Press on the position oE matters in Turkey have given great offence to the Sultan and his Ministers, A strict censorship lias therefore been established over the dispatches of the special correspondents of various European newspapers.
