The Khedive has decreed that the remaining leaders of the rebellion, besides those exiled to Ceylon, shall be banished. Sentences range from 20 years downwards. (Received Dec 28, 11-45 a.m.) LONDON, Dec 27. William Westgate, who confessed to participation in the murder of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke, and recently arrived in custody from Jamaica, has been examined, but found not guilty, and accordingly discharged. (Received Dec 29, 1 a.m.) LONDON, Dec 28. In its issue this morning the Times publishes a leading article criticising the financial policy of the Australian colonies. The Times recommends that the colonies should devote their surplus revenue to the prosecution of public works* instead of raising loans for that purpose, and advises that liberal assistance should be extended to persons desirous of emigrating to the colonies. Cardinal Newman is. suffering from a severe attack of bronchitis.
